Why Do People Set Goals? My Personal Take On Goal Setting.
If we don’t go about setting goals and following them through, our life will drift any which way and our dreams will remain just that, dreams. If we have no direction, then we have no control. If we have no control than we will live someone’s dreams. Someone, who themselves have set goals and taken action and you will be left working to full fill their dreams, not your own dreams. In that case, wouldn’t it be much better to plan, to take action, and full fill our own dreams?
Let’s look at it this way, you want to take a trip but if you have no idea of where you are going, have no destination in mind, and no map and you drive aimlessly for days maybe weeks, you will never really arrive anywhere except for being lost.
So, if you have no final destination and no set route there is absolutely no way of knowing where you are at any particular moment.
If you want to succeed with affiliate marketing or any online business or in fact any endeavor you have for your future you must set goals and have an action plan to reach your vision.
How Bad Do You Want It? Look Up, Get Up, Never Ever Give Up!
This is a MUST SEE very motivational video might help you answer the question – Why Do People Set Goals?
Why Do People Set Goals? An Example From My Own Life Experience.
My husband and I have been married for over 40 years. Wow how time flies! In the span of those 40 years we’ve raised 3 children and have built 5 homes. Each of those homes started with an idea/a thought/a vision.
Our first home we started when we were first married. It was a huge 3 story home on our farm. We had a vision of raising our children in a beautiful farm house on our acreage. We believed we could do what all others told us was impossible.
We were young, naive, but very determined. When I think back to those days, everything was against us. Our age, our experience, our financial situation all looking pretty grim to others, but to us there was no problem. We had al that was needed, we each other and we had a dream. What else did we really need?
I was 19 and my husband was 23 and we knew absolutely nothing about building a house, let alone a huge 4000sq.ft. house. Needless to say, we had a dream – a vision and a 10 year plan.
We had no savings, but we did own our farm and we both worked. No bank would even consider looking at us for a loan to build this over-sized farm house.
Did that prevent us from building out house? Absolutely not! We decided if no bank would loan us the money we would have to figure out a way to devour this elephant on our own. Would it be easy? Heck NO!
We would have to have a plan and a darn good one at that. We bought an old mobile home for $1200.00 and we set it on our property and worked on our plan. I must say, we had a case of extreme tunnel vision.
We ate, slept, and worked our dream. There was absolutely nothing that was going to get in our way.
Living out in the country, we would get the looks and hear the gossip at the local diner about how these two young-ins were going to fail and lose everything.
Why do People Set Goals? Fast Forward 11 Years
I still smile when I think back at those years.
Fast forward 11 years and 3 children, 2 dogs, 200 chickens, 4 steers, a dozen rabbits, 2 cats, 2 birds, a couple goldfish, a combine and a few tractors and our house was finished! No mortgage! We owned our house lock, stock and barrel.
We not only built a house, we built other farm buildings, and landscaped our property as well. It is really surprising what two people can do when they put their mind to it.
Whatever Happens Do Not Let Setbacks Derail Your Plans
Our 10 year plan was subsequently bumped up to 11 years because of a few minor set backs.
However, armed with our 10 year plan and our determined goal setting skills – we had a map and we knew what direction to go in. If we started to veer off the original plan we would make adjustments and keep plugging away.
We had accomplished what everyone said was impossible. It wasn’t easy, a lot of hard work, a lot of failures as well, a ton of sacrifices, but in the end an exhilarating overwhelming feeling of success.
An accomplishment that would have never been attained if we would have let someone else build our house or believed all the naysayers.
Time For A New Dream And a New Set of Goals
Fast Forward one year – We sold our home and farm and purchased 120 acres with a mile of lake frontage and a very old shack to live in. The shack delapitated as it was, still had enough room for a large kitchen table to begin our new 10 year plan. That story is for another time. 🙂
